Lax Kw'alaams Settlement Trust Survey
Dear Lax Kw'Alaams Nation Members:
The Lax Kw'Alaams Indian Band Settlement Trust Trustees would like to request your valuable input for a survey to determine the priorities of the Trust and how we can support the community.
The general purpose of the Trust is promotion and funding of opportunities, programs, initiatives, and services.
This survey will provide valuable information to determine what priorities are most important to our Membership. This information will be collected, and the data received will allow the Trustees to determine what the membership feels is important and where the priorities are for funding and supporting initiatives to benefit the community.
These priorities are all important and will be supported, to the best of our abilities, year to year in our programming and grant opportunities.
It is very critical that we understand what priorities are important to you as an individual. Please take some time to fill out this survey, every opinion is important, and every voice is heard.
A survey will be requested from the membership every 4 years, as membership priorities may change.
WHAT IS THE TRUST?
The Settlor (Lax Kw'alaams Band) entered into a Settlement Agreement on October 22, 2002, with Canada pursuant to which Canada agreed to fulfil its respective outstanding obligations to the Settlor relating to the loss of its unsurrendered interest in the southern portion of Tsimpsean Indian Reserve No. 2.
All Settlement Monies were deposited into the Trust Capital Account of the Trust as herein provided;
6. The Settlor and the Trustees intend that the Settlement Monies and the other property delivered to the Trustees are assets for the use and benefit of the present and future Members of the Settlor, as Beneficiaries, to be administered by the Trustees
The principal amount of Settlement Monies will not be available for use by Members but is to be held in trust and invested for the benefit of present and future generations of Members while revenues generated (annual income) therefrom will be used for the benefit of present and future members
This survey is designed to allow membership to indicate its spending priorities and desires for managing the Trust monies in 8 areas:
