District of Tumbler Ridge: Zoning Bylaw Update Survey |
In 2023, the District of Tumbler Ridge updated and adopted its Official Community Plan (OCP). This updated OCP describes the community’s vision and sets the future course of growth for the community.
To help implement the updated OCP’s vision and directions, Tumbler Ridge’s Zoning Bylaw (Bylaw No. 585, 2012) is currently being updated. The intent of the Zoning Bylaw update process is to develop a user-friendly document that responds to the communities needs and values through alignment with the OCP and ensuring that the bylaws policies align with contemporary zoning and development standards.
During the process of updating the OCP and Zoning Bylaw from 2021 to 2024, we engaged with community members, local groups, business owners, developers, realtors, and the District of Tumbler Ridge Council and staff.
From these discussions, key themes emerged relating to housing diversity, short-term rental, home occupations, accessory buildings, Town Centre commercial, urban agriculture, renewable energy and sustainable building technologies. In addition, in November 2023, the BC provincial government adopted Small-Scale, Multi-Unit housing initiative, allows 3-4 units including secondary suites and accessory dwelling units, in single family zones and duplex zones, which required changes to all the zoning bylaws across the province.
The recommended updates to the Zoning Bylaw are a direct result of the feedback we received and the compliance to BC provincial legislation change.
This survey asks for your feedback on the recommended changes to Tumbler Ridge Zoning Bylaw. The questions share what we learned from community residents and how it influenced our recommendations. The specific Zoning Bylaw section being discussed is referenced should you be interested in reviewing the regulations.
A draft version of the updated Zoning Bylaw is available on the District’s website for your review.
This survey should approximately take 15 minutes to complete. Thank you in advance for your feedback!
