Board Member Job Description
Each Volunteer Board Member will serve a 3-year term starting January 1, 2025 and is expected to:
Each Volunteer Board Member will serve a 3-year term starting January 1, 2025 and is expected to:
- Participate (at a minimum of 75%) in all board-related activities, including in-person meetings, electronically held meetings (teleconference, Zoom), and events.
- Actively serve on one committee.
- Commit to attend the Board Retreat held once a year at the Southern Conference on Homelessness and Housing.
- Commit to preparation for and participation in all meetings by reading advance materials, including email and other electronic documents.
- Serve as an ambassador for LIHCA.
- Recruit members to LIHCA.
- Support fundraising efforts, including:
- Make an annual financial contribution above membership dues to the organization (amount determined at your discretion);
- Cover the costs of all travel, hotel, and food costs related to board meetings; and
- Be a LIHCA member in good standing (paid dues for current year).
Qualifications and Board Composition
In order to legally serve on the LIHCA Board of Directors, a candidate must:
1. Be of the age of majority (19) in the State of Alabama; and
2. Be a LIHCA member in good standing or a member of an organization that is a LIHCA member in good standing.

Emphasis will be placed on the following when determining board composition:
1. Candidate(s) must be a resident of the State of Alabama.
2. Candidate(s) should, to the greatest extent possible, reflect the demographics of the state with respect to geography, race and ethnicity, gender, income levels, and both urban and rural areas; and
3. Candidate(s) should have a demonstrated interest in the housing needs of individuals and families with low incomes.
