APPLICATION FOR FUNDING

MFL Teacher Shortfall Funding enables MFL Teachers who have a shortfall in Teaching Council registration criteria for a foreign language on the post-primary curriculum to receive funding for 15 credits for language modules which will result in the teacher achieving Teaching Council registration in the foreign language.

Criteria for Applicants:
NOTE: Applicants accessing currently any other publicly funded programmes are NOT eligible to apply.
1.The scheme cannot be used to fund undergraduate degrees or any parts of Professional Master of Education (PME) degrees or other teaching qualification courses. The teacher must have a degree in or have completed modules in the target foreign language, and this scheme addresses any shortfalls in that degree. The teacher must have a teaching qualification or be actively completing an MFL teaching qualification (PME or equivalent).
2.The scheme covers credits obtained subsequent to approval of funding by PPLI.
3.The MFL teacher does not have to have an existing Teaching Council number nor be currently working in the system.
4.The MFL teacher must seek PPLI funding before registering for the HEI modules.
5.The MFL teacher will be reimbursed subsequent to registration with the Teaching Council in the target language in which they had a shortfall in registration criteria.
6.A maximum of 15 credits will be reimbursed although the MFL teacher may access modules of any number of credits. The amount to be reimbursed is based on the fees paid for the reimbursed credits.
7.The MFL teacher sources and manages all aspects of accessing and completing the modules. Modules can be accessed in any of the HEIs in the Republic of Ireland.
8.The HEI delivering the modules must provide proof of credits achieved and fees paid.
9.The Teaching Council must provide proof of registration in the target language.
10.Only module fees are covered. NO course materials, travel, subsistence, childcare or other costs will be covered.
11.The MFL teacher completes a PPLI evaluation form upon the completion of the process.
