ABPS Subject Matter Expert Interest Form Question Title * Thank you for your Interest. Subject matter experts (SMEs) are ABPS Diplomates who assist in the development of board certification examinations in their specialty. Please review all activities/descriptions below, and select all activities in which you would like to participate. *Please note: Activities are conducted during normal business hours (Eastern Time). Item Writing: Involves writing exam questions for the written exam using an online item writing system. Questions submitted must follow ABPS style guidelines and be supported by an approved specialty reference. Item Review: Involves participating in virtual meetings (typically 3-4 hours in duration) to review and approve written exam questions. Must have access to approved specialty reference material. Exam Development Workshop: Involves participating in virtual meetings (typically 7-hour sessions over 1 - 2 days) that includes the review of exam forms, item/question review, and standard setting. Oral Case Development (AN, DR, EM, FMO, OS Only): Involves authoring oral case(s) using the approved case template to meet ABPS style guidelines. Oral Case Review (AN, DR, EM, FMO, OS Only): Involves participating in virtual meetings (typically 4-6 hours in duration) to review and approve oral cases for exam administration. Oral Examiner (AN, DR, EM, FMO, OS Only): Involves participating in the virtual examination of certification candidates. This is a 2 -3 day commitment.
