Review of Racism in Yukon Education
Survey Introduction
What:
The Chiefs Committee on Education (CCOE) and the First Nations Education Commission (FNEC) advised the Yukon Child and Youth Advocate Office (YCAO) of the issue about racism in education. YCAO has launched a review of systemic racism in Yukon Education in coordination with the Yukon First Nation Education Directorate (YFNED).
Who: YCAO is an independent Office of the Yukon Legislative Assembly. Its mandate is to uphold children and youth’s rights, and to ensure their voices are being heard in all decisions made about them.
YFNED is a First Nations-led organization that provides education services and supports to Yukon First Nations. Its mission is to see unified control over First Nation education so First Nations people can be empowered in their ways of knowing and prepare their children to be active participants in the current world.
Why:
Determine how racism impacts the education of Indigenous and other students of colour.
Identify the types of racism experienced by students, their parents, and communities.
Determine whether rural and urban students experience different types of racism.
How:
We are collecting your views and story through leading questions. There are no right or wrong answers! The point is to get an understanding of your experience in the education system (anything related to learning and knowledge sharing) in the Yukon.
