WHAT IS THE RESEARCH ABOUT?
The purpose of this research is to quantify the level of workplace burnout and how it affects different demographic groups. The study will look into specific causes and effects of burnout on individuals and organisations. The result of this study looks to provide evidence and recommend actions that organisations can take to mitigate the issue of workplace stress and burnout. This survey is focused on organisational structures and cultural causes of burnout and is not a diagnostic for individual burnout.
WHO IS CONDUCTING THIS RESEARCH?
This study is being conducted by Infinite Potential, an independent think tank based in Australia with a mission to create workplaces that are healthy, productive and sustainable. The lead researchers are Dr. John Chan and Sally Clarke.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN THE STUDY?
Anyone over 18 with current or previous work experience is invited to participate in this study.
WHAT DOES MY PARTICIPATION INVOLVE?
If you decide to participate, you will be asked to answer questions about your experiences and feelings about work. Participation is expected to take about 15 minutes.
All responses will be anonymous, meaning that any information or response you provide cannot and will not be linked to you or your personal information. Summary information based on grouped data maybe used in publications, reports, and presentations, but your individual information will be untraceable and will never be reported.
WHAT IS THE BENEFIT OF PARTICIPATING IN THIS STUDY?
By participating in this research, you will have the opportunity to contribute to knowledge about workplace burnout and how it affects individuals and organisations. This knowledge can help generate new ways of working that will help reduce the level of stress and other psychosocial risks in the workplace.
ARE THERE ANY RISKS/INCONVENIENCE?
While there are minimal risks associated with participating in this study, we are conscious of the following potential risks:
The survey will ask you to think about your experiences and interactions in the workplace. For those who are having/have had bad experiences in the workplace, there is a possibility of triggering a bad memory or experience.
If you experience any feelings of distress or discomfort for any reason, please seek advice from your General Practitioner or doctor or contact your local mental health service. Your organisation should have an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) that can provide support. Speak to your HR department if you’re unsure.
WHAT IF I WITHDRAW FROM THIS RESEARCH PROJECT?
If you wish to withdraw from the study once it has started, you can do so at any time without having to give a reason, by leaving the questionnaire. However, it is not possible to withdraw your data from the study results as no identifiable information will be attached to the data.
HOW DO I CONSENT TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS STUDY?
Answering the questions will be taken as your consent to participate in the research.
WHAT IF I HAVE ANY QUERIES OR CONCERNS?
If you have queries or concerns about the research, please feel free to contact the lead researchers, Dr. John Chan (john.chan@infinite-potential.com.au) or Sally Clarke (sally@infinite-potential.com.au).
