The application period opens on Friday 14 June and closes on Friday 2 August. The sooner you apply the sooner we are able to assess your application.

Before starting the application, please collect the following information:
- Medical Details (Medicare number, medical center and contact details etc.)
- Parent/Guardian Information (name, phone, email)
- Principal or Teachers Information (name, phone, email, position)

About WEX
WEX provides Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in Years 10, 11 and 12 with hands-on experience and information about job opportunities and career pathways in the Australian Government.

WEX is funded by the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) under its Children and Schooling Program. The WEX program is delivered by the Australian Government in partnership with ETM Perspectives (ETMP).

WEX Canberra 2024 will run from Sunday 6 October to Friday 11 October 2024 in Canberra, ACT. We are seeking applications from students attending schools in Tasmania, Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, Western Australia, Queensland, Northern Territory or Australian Capital Territory.

All transportation, accommodation and meals will be provided at no cost.

In 2024, WEX Canberra activities and experiences may include:
  • Meeting Indigenous leaders in government and obtaining advice on career planning.
  • Working alongside Indigenous mentors who will help guide your own personal leadership journey.
  • Meeting other Indigenous students and future leaders.
  • Visits to different Australian Government agencies.
  • 1 on 1 and small group workshops on leadership, mentoring and how to make the most of your school learning experience.
  • Cultural activities.
  • A Careers Expo, where students can talk to representatives from a range of Government agencies.
  • Prizes, giveaways, and WEX merchandise packs.

Eligibility:
To participate in WEX you need to:
  • Identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
  • Be enrolled in Year 10, Year 11, or Year 12 in 2024.
  • Be located and go to school in either Tasmania, Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, Western Australia, Queensland, Northern Territory or Australian Capital Territory.
  • Be interested in a career in the Australian Public Service.
  • Have your school’s support to attend.
  • Be emotionally resilient and able to be away from home for up to five days.
  • Be confident travelling to and from Canberra without supervision.
Completing your online application form
  • Make sure you provide your FULL LEGAL NAME. If your application is successful, this information will be used to book your travel.
  • We define ‘home community’ as the suburb or town from which your family originates. This may be different to your current place of residence and may include more than one location.
  • Your application will only be considered if ALL sections of this form have been completed.

  • WEX participants will be selected from a variety of geographical locations within Tasmania, Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, Western Australia, Queensland, Northern Territory and Australian Capital Territory, ranging from very remote to urban. Please note, that the earlier you complete your application the earlier it will be assessed for shortlisting (a spot is NOT guaranteed, but it will increase your chances to attend WEX Canberra).
