Introduction

Supplier Management has gone through a dramatic transformation within the last decade, moving from a discipline focussing solely on price negotiation and supplier performance (ROI) towards establishing meaningful strategic partnerships - a concept State of Flux has labelled ‘Return on Relationships’ (RoR).

In the context of Supplier Management, RoR is a measure of the value a business can derive from its relationships with suppliers. As a broader concept than ROI, it includes non-financial benefits such as risk reduction, supply chain resilience, and improved innovation and sustainability performance.

This year, we have chosen ‘Return on Relationships’ as the key topic for the annual supplier management research, which is now in its 16th year.

The insights from this research will help inform organisations on where their strengths lie with regards to supplier management, and what activities would help them achieve the desired ‘customer of choice’ status with their key suppliers. Completing the survey will also enable you to benchmark your approach to your industry leaders and peer organisations.
