ADHSU: P1T mentoring from a mentor and mentee point of view.
From associated NL:
The recent announcement of 2000+ more paramedics and other staff over four years has been roundly welcomed by members in high workload areas.
There is hope that this significant investment will take the NSW jurisdiction from its current second last position on the response time league table, to at – or near to – the top.
However, there is likely to be a fair amount of additional stress placed on staff between now and when the final P1T has made P1 – which is around five years from now.
On the one hand, all the new trainees need and deserve great mentors to give them the best possible start to an exciting career. On the other, there are many existing P1s and above who have been through a gruelling few years and are feeling unable to provide the level of mentorship trainees deserve.
Whether you are a trainee or a potential mentor, please take a moment to fill out this survey to assist ADHSU delegates to prepare a union position on this important issue.
