Enhancing the Benefits of Group Diabetes Education |
Welcome, and thanks for your interest in the Behavioral Diabetes Institute’s newest project: Enhancing the Benefits of Group Diabetes Education.
The purpose of this project is to learn how two different approaches to diabetes group education might help to improve glucose outcomes and quality of life outcomes for people with type 2 diabetes. By participating in this study, you may help us to learn how people can benefit from group diabetes education and how we can develop more effective and more satisfying diabetes education programs for people with type 2 diabetes all over the United States.
The project requires that you participate, via Zoom video, in a small online group (8 – 10 people) once weekly for 5 weeks. Each group visit will last approximately 75 minutes and will be devoted to providing you with valuable and personalized information about diabetes care. All participants will be randomly assigned to either Program 1 (where you will be encouraged to use your own glucose meter to support what the program will teach) or Program 2 (where you will be given a continuous glucose monitor, which will be an integral part of the education program.
In addition, you will be asked to complete an online survey and an A1C home test kit right before you start the diabetes education group program (baseline), and then to do so again at 3 months after starting the program, and then to do so one last time at 6 months after starting the program. The surveys ask about your thoughts and feeling about diabetes, how you take care of your diabetes, and how the education program affects you over time, both positively and negatively. If you complete the program and all of the assessment materials, you will receive three Amazon gift cards: a $25 card for completing the baseline set (online survey and A1C home test kit), a $50 card for the second set, and a $100 card for the third set. That’s it!
To see if you qualify, please answer the questions below. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to email us at AHHAStudy@behavioraldiabetes.org or call us at 858-336-8693.
Your participation is completely voluntary, but we do hope you will be willing to participate. We will be closing this opportunity as soon as enough people have joined the program, so don’t delay if you are at all interested.
Thanks for considering this project!
