Remote Accessible Vote-by-Mail System
A new service for voters with disabilities

What
Voters with disabilities can now use a remote accessible vote-by-mail system to electronically receive and mark their ballots in a screen-readable format from any computer with Internet access. This system does not store or transmit voters’ personal information or their votes over the Internet.

After marking their votes, voters must print and return their ballots to the Department of Elections for counting.

Voters may return their ballot in the postage-paid return envelope the Department sends to voters who vote by mail. The return envelope has holes indicating where voters must sign the envelope. Voters who cannot sign may make their mark in the signature box and have it witnessed.

Instead of mailing, voters may also drop off their ballots at the City Hall Voting Center, the drop-off stations located outside City Hall during the four days prior to Election Day, or at any California polling place on Election Day.

Upon receipt, to preserve the secrecy of voters’ selections, the Department removes and separates the ballots from their return envelopes for processing. The Department will transfer voters’ selections onto paper ballots that can be tabulated by the voting equipment.

When
Voters can use this system to access their ballots for the June 5, 2018, election beginning Monday, May 7, through Election Day, Tuesday, June 5.

How
Voters may go to [direct link] and enter their information to access the ballot. Voters may also contact the Department of Elections to request a link to the ballot by email, or if they have any questions:
