PREAMBLE: This survey was requested by the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI) which is the lead government department responsible for the post Covid-19 infrastructure-led growth and economic recovery plan. In doing so, DPWI seeks to better understand the skills and capacity levels available within the built environment professional sector and therefore be able to motivate for additional funding from National Treasury to accelerate infrastructure development. DPWI is also requesting assistance from professional consultants to build capacity within Government for the roll-out of infrastructure programmes.
SPECIAL PLEA: In order to reinforce the role of the quantity surveyor in South Africa and to effectively influence government’s policy making for the profession, it is imperative that we reach out to as many persons as possible who have a quantity surveying background and/or qualification so that government better understands the status and profile of the quantity surveying sector. In this regard, if you know of anyone who may not receive this survey questionnaire, due to not being a member of the ASAQS or registered with the SACQSP, kindly forward this link to them so that our survey sample is widely representative of the target QS population. It does not matter in which industry they are presently employed, as long they have the necessary knowledge base.

This survey is to be completed only ONCE by each quantity surveyor, notwithstanding that it may be sent out from from both ASAQS and SACQSP in order to achieve maximun reach. This survey is trying to ascertain the situation within the quantity surveying profession at present so it is imperative that the data sample is as large as possible.
All responses will be confidential, but aggregated information may be shared with the media and more detailed information regarding the capacity and availability of firms may be passed on to the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI) and other client- and built environment bodies. Permission will also be granted to researchers to analyse the data under a confidentiality agreement with the ASAQS.
