Before you proceed, it's crucial to consider the following points:
  • Press Release. The Minister for Veterans' Affairs has indicated in this Press Release that:
    • the most recent claims in the backlog are being allocated for Initial Liability processing within 2 weeks,
    • that the Permanent Impairment will be in the same state before the end of February, and
    • there can be a lot more read into the press release, but let's not go there. Instead, we need to test this and have lived experience data recorded in this survey.
  • Claims and Conditions. When submitting a claim, such as for Tinnitus, it's actually a specific condition that you have claimed for. So you submit a claim for a condition, one condition at a time:
    • DVA then take your multiple conditions that you submitted on one day, eg Tinnitus, Chronic Anxiety and Chronic Depression, and these get consolidated into what DVA calls a claim.
    • So, when Veterans use the word claim, Veterans are usually referring to a single condition that they have made a claim for.
    • When DVA use the word claim, they are usually referring to a number of conditions that have been grouped together.
    • Giving the same word two definitions is confusing, but it's vital to understand.
    • It is vital because when these conditions are grouped as a claim, and one out of five conditions is accepted, DVA deems the entire claim as accepted (especially for statistical purposes). This is not a position that most Veterans would agree with.
During the Survey. The differing definitions for the word "claim" is not widely known and may cause confusion.

Therefore, during this survey, you will be asked to specify the number of conditions lodged, because there is no use having one out of ten conditions in a DVA claim accepted and for DVA to consider the whole claim to be accepted in its reporting.

This approach aims to validate the accuracy of the Minister's press release, ensuring transparency and truthfulness in the process. Please give it your best shot because someone along time ago made this deliberately confusing.
