Thank you for participating in the St. Augustine Beach Sustainability and Environmental Planning Advisory Council (SEPAC) Climate Change Challenge survey.  This survey will take approximately 15 minutes to complete. The results will be used for educational purposes and will be presented at the St. Augustine Beach Arbor Day Celebration in April 2020.
The increase in global temperature is significantly altering the planet’s climate.[1] The consequences of climate change, include:

•        Higher temperatures

•        More extreme weather events: more storms, hurricanes and windier conditions

•        Increased risk of coastal and inland flooding

•        Melting ice and shrinking glaciers

•        Sea-level rise

St. Augustine is one of many chronically flooded communities along Florida's 1,200-mile coastline. We have already seen the damage caused by Hurricane’s Matthew and Irma, with more extreme weather events likely. To address the climate change related impacts, listed above, we need to slow global warming by reducing carbon emissions. Fortunately, the City of St Augustine Beach recently passed resolutions on sea level rise and climate change to help raise awareness of these issues.

This survey will help gauge the perceptions of the community toward climate change and the motivation of individuals to reduce their carbon emissions. The broad aim of our research is to examine lifestyle choices  in relation to climate change.

[1] Global warming is caused by heat-trapping greenhouse gas emissions (GHGe), primarily CO2. The largest source of GHGe from human activities is from burning fossil fuels for electricity (coal, oil, natural gas), heat, and transportation.
