Demographics

The Wheatbelt Development Commission are working on a Regional Drought Resilience Plan for the wheatbelt as part of the Regional Drought Resilience Planning program, funded through the Federal Governments Future Drought Fund.

The drought resilience plan will identify priority actions to equip our region with the necessary strategies and resources to effectively prepare for, and manage, potential future drought risks in the areas of:
Resilient Water: a water system that can sustain industry, agriculture and the community for two consecutive years of low rainfall
Resilient Communities: that are resourceful, adaptable and supported to mentally and physically bounce back from drought
Resilient Agriculture Systems: an agricultural sector that is highly engaged in innovating farming systems to be resilient to drought
Resilient Landscapes: healthy landscapes with natural resources able to sustain industry and environmental services
Resilient Regional Economy: a diverse, forward looking, adaptable business sector, not wholly dependent on seasonal conditions
