Aim of the survey
In 2010, the European declaration on pig castration was agreed with as aim to phase out the surgical castration of pigs by 2018. FVE was part of the drafting team and early signatory to the declaration.
As a first step to improve the welfare of animals from 1 January 2012, surgical castration of pigs shall be performed with prolonged analgesia and/or anaesthesia.
With this survey we want to get more information on the situation regarding surgical castration with prolonged analgesia and/or anaesthesia.
