Welcome to our survey and thank you for taking the time to share your experiences! The insights you share are important in helping us understand and document the challenges, hopes and resistance of Queer, Trans, Intersex, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (QTIBIPOC) in the Nordic region.

Many QTIBIPOC perspectives often come from elsewhere, so with this project, we want to collectively trace and map the knowledge, experiences and organising rooted in our lives within Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Kalaallit Nunaat, Iceland, Sápmi, Faroe Islands and Åland. 

This survey is for you if you fall within the umbrella term of QTIBIPOC. The definition that we use builds on the definition by the CUTIE BIPOC festival. The term ‘QTIBIPOC’ refers to individuals who are queer, trans, intersex and are either Black, Indigenous or a Person of Color(BIPOC). This definition encompasses those who are LGBTQI+ and who are descended from anywhere in Africa, Asia(East, Central, West and South), Sápmi territories, Inuit territories, the Indigenous peoples of Australia, the Americas, the Caribbean, Indian Pacific, and Roma, Sinti (and) Travellers. This working definition includes transnational adoptees from the above-mentioned regions as well as people of mixed ancestry/origin. 

This term comes from outside a Nordic context and so might be present in different ways within the Nordic region. We recognise that it might not make sense for everyone. We all have different ways that we identify as individuals and in relation to others. We use it here as a working definition to think about and discuss the intersection of being queer/trans/intersex as well as racialised in different ways.   

This survey is part of the research project Rivers in Resistance initiated by a group of QTIBIPOC activists and organisers working in some different organisations across Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Norway. The project is a collaboration between Normstormerne (DK), LGBT Asylum (DK), Tamam (SWE), Salam (NO) and Helsinki Pride Community (FI) and is funded by NIKK (Nordic Information on Gender). 

The project’s purpose is to create a practical toolkit in partnership with QTIBIPOCs – designed by and for the community. We hope that the toolkit will serve as a resource for QTIBIPOC organizing, create opportunities for cross-border coalitions and be part of the effort of documentation in our different communities. 

This toolkit will also serve as a transformative intervention for individuals and networks working with QTIBIPOCs. Our intention is to develop tools that can be used broadly to make more livable futures for QTIBIPOCs. The toolkit will draw its strength from real-life experiences, activist strategies, organizational skills, and movement expertise from across the region.

PRACTICALS  

The survey allows for a lot of open-ended answers because you are the expert in your experience and we want to hear your specific insights and perspectives. 

The survey should take approximately 20 minutes to complete.
