Restorative Justice Training

Led by CCEJ's adult education team, our relationship-centered trainings introduce the core concepts of Restorative Justice as foundational practices in establishing equitable and just cultures.

What is Restorative Justice?
Restorative Justice is centering relationships in all we do, including when harm happens. Community Building Circles are dialogue-based spaces to build empathy, strengthen community, prevent conflict, and prepare for using Restorative Justice as a way to hold people accountable. This work is rooted in a culture shift away from incarceration & carceral thinking, disposability of human beings, three strikes laws/zero-tolerance policies, racist formal and informal policing, and disproportionately punitive disciplinary models.

Training Summary:
Leaders moving toward Restorative Justice are often challenged with how to address harm in ways that both promote accountability while moving away from punishment and shame. Gaps often exist in our policies, procedures, and practices when we need more structure than the motivational interviewing that Restorative Dialogue offers us while at the same time responding to situations where a full Harm & Conflict Circle process may not be available or the best fit. This workshop will support participants in defining the differences between punishment, consequences, and accountability, and to reflect on where they can take action in better aligning their own policies and practices with Restorative Justice values.

What should you know before registering?
All of our trainings are interactive. Participants will practice skills through group discussion, hands-on exercises, experiential Circle activities, roleplays, and feedback from experienced trainers. No session is able to be observed passively.

All of our trainings will be offered in-person at our office at 3605 Long Beach Blvd. Suite 100, Long Beach, CA 90807.

Our office has several gender neutral bathrooms available. There is plenty of street parking available in front of and around our office.

Regarding COVID-19 safety, CCEJ does not require program participants to be vaccinated, take COVID tests, or mask during training. We encourage all participants to do what makes them feel safest.

We can only issue a full refund if you cancel more than 14 business days before the date of your training. We can provide a 50% refund if you cancel between 8-13 business days before the date of your training. Unfortunately, we cannot provide refunds if you cancel within 7 business days or less than the date of your training.
