About this survey

Thank you for taking the time to complete our READY Voters survey.

The project is called READY Voters which stands for Reaching, Engaging and Developing Young Voters. It aims to do “exactly what it says on the tin” and encourage people who are of voting age - or those coming up to 18 - to register to vote. By dispelling any myths or preconceptions, young people are not only more educated, but are engaged in the democratic process, enabling them to take part and have a say in their future.

An explanation of what the survey is for and why people should fill it in.

This survey is to find out why only half of young people who are currently eligible to register to vote have done so and why they are less likely to vote in elections.

Once registered you do then have the choice whether to vote or not, if young people are not on the register, they won’t be able to vote.

Who is the project aimed at?

READY Voters wants to hear from everyone aged from 15 to 24 within the Shropshire area. We would like to hear from people as young as 15 because they are reaching attainer age. Attainers are those aged 16/17 who are not yet old enough to vote but can still register to vote. We are focusing on this group because they have the lowest turnout and engagement numbers, and as a result are being under-represented. We hope that connecting with young people in democratic engagement before the age of 18 will result in future higher registration.

The survey should only take about five to ten minutes of your time, depending on how much detail you give when answering the questions.
