Participant information

Lead Researchers: Prof Becky Taylor, IOE – UCL’s Faculty of Education and Society. Dr Lisa-Maria Müller, Chartered College of Teaching.

What is this about?
IOE, UCL’s Faculty of Education and Society, and the Chartered College of Teaching are carrying out a project funded by the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) which aims to improve our understanding of flexible working in schools. In this research we are exploring the school- and teacher-level factors associated with teachers being able to take PPA offsite, and how the impact of offsite PPA could be researched in a large-scale study. This research has been reviewed and approved by the IOE Research Ethics Committee (approval number REC 2003) and the Chartered College of Teaching Ethics Panel (approval number CCT2024001).

As part of this research, we are inviting you to complete a short online poll.

What will taking part involve?
If you agree to take part, you will be invited to complete a short online poll. You will be asked a number of questions about you and about flexible working at your school. The poll should take about 5 minutes to complete.

Do I have to take part?
You do not have to take part. You should read this information page and if you have any questions you should contact research@chartered.college. You should not complete the poll until you have had all your questions answered satisfactorily. If you decide to withdraw before you have completed and submitted the poll, all the data you have provided will be deleted.

What are the possible disadvantages and risks of taking part?
There are no foreseeable disadvantages or risks of taking part.

What are the possible benefits of taking part?
Your answers will help improve our understanding of flexible working in schools. Participants will have the opportunity to enter a free prize draw for a chance of winning one £50 Love2Shop gift voucher.

Will my taking part in this project be kept confidential?
All data is strictly confidential and will be anonymised so that it will not be possible to identify you or your school in any analyses or reporting. The information you provide will be handled in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation, which means we will store it securely and we will not give your personal details to anyone else outside of the research team.

You do not have to respond to the poll if you do not want to. If you later decide that you do not want your answers used in this research you can ask for your data to be withdrawn from the project at any time until 30 April 2025, without giving a reason, by contacting us via email at research@chartered.college

After this time, due to reports being written it will not be possible to withdraw.

What will happen to the results of the study?
We will share our findings with the EEF and we also plan to make our research findings publicly available through reports, research articles and conferences. The data from this poll will be stored in a secure electronic format for 10 years after the end of the study. When the report is published on the EEF website it will be announced in the Chartered College of Teaching’s communications.
