MERSD Fall 2020 Return to School Survey - High School
We are actively creating plans for the fall. As we continue the process, we need important information from you to inform these plans. Your responses are not binding and will be used only for internal planning purposes. Please complete a form for each child in your family. Thank you!
To abide by the safety guidelines set by the state and agreed to by the School Committee, we cannot open school in a traditional way. School will look different this year, at least in the beginning. In anticipation of the need for flexibility in planning, the District has developed three models: an in-person model; a hybrid model, and a remote learning model.
The in-person model, which is the most like traditional school, is not feasible while keeping students at a 6-foot distance as we do not have the physical space to accommodate that plan. In the hybrid model, students alternate between in-person learning and at-home learning. Our initial assessment shows that the hybrid model would allow the high school to offer its current program of studies with minor modifications. It is our intention that students will be enrolled in six or seven courses and while at school, students will attend three or four different classes per day. This structure limits mobility within the building. Class size in the building will be twelve or fewer students. Remote and in-school cohorts learning activities will be integrated and interactive. The remote learning model will be the default model for all students and is designed to provide full-time learning at home following the 2020-2021 school-day schedule. This model will follow the hybrid class schedule described above with a structured school day and accountability in a traditional way.
