What is a “Roots of Prevention Award"?

The Burlington Partnership for a Healthy Community holds an annual award celebration to recognize and honor people, programs, and organizations supporting the health and wellbeing of the Burlington community. Special interest is given to nominations with a direct impact on substance misuse prevention. Thank you for submitting your thoughtful nominations. We may reach out to you to ask for additional information or pictures we can use of your nominee.

We give awards in several possible categories. We’ve listed a few ideas below:

Business -- Do you know of a local bar or restaurant that has implemented policies to reduce underage sales of alcohol or tobacco, or overselling of alcohol? How about a retailer who chooses to ban adult-only (alcohol, tobacco, cannabis) products or advertising in their store and promotes healthy alternatives for youth and adults? Or a Burlington business that implemented a robust employee wellness program?
Organization or Program -- Do you know of an organization or program helping to create a healthier environment in Burlington? What about a neighborhood group helping to create a connected community or a program offering support for parents or healthy social activities for teens?
Individual – Do you know a person going above and beyond in the community to help build neighborhood connection? Someone who has helped to support local policy change that improves community health? Tell us about some of the amazing people you know in Burlington!

D.G. Weaver Award -- The Burlington Partnership is proud to honor the late assistant principal of Burlington High School, D.G. Weaver, by giving this annual award to a person associated with the Burlington schools who is a positive role model and who goes "above and beyond" to support healthy opportunities/activities for our youth, either as a staff, volunteer, or community member.
