Michael Goldman Memorial Golf Scholarship Application

Michael Goldman was a longtime Highland Park resident & avid Sunset Valley Golf Club golfer. Mr. Goldman believed that golf is a tool for success – a way to develop focus and discipline while fostering emotional well-being through a healthy and enjoyable outdoor activity. His family’s goal is to share the opportunity that Mr. Goldman so valued with local youth and to employ golf as a means of helping young people overcome obstacles.  This scholarship is for Highland Park and Highwood middle school and high school students who are enthusiastic about learning to play golf and who would not otherwise have access to golf lessons. 

Applicants must be:

-Highland Park or Highwood resident 

-Middle or high school student, ages 12-18

-Express an interest in learning to play golf 

-Lack access to golf lessons 

-A person who would benefit from one-on-one attention and golf instruction.

-Referred by representatives of community organizations such as schools, social service or law enforcement agencies, or other relevant contacts who believe the candidate could benefit from the program.

-Facing challenges including economic, social, emotional, familial, or academic

-Exhibiting a level of responsibility that would make it likely that the student would fully participate in and benefit from the experience.

The scholarship includes:

-8 hours of golf lessons per year (in 1/2 hour or 1 hour increments)

-Loaner golf clubs

-Discounted practice time at Park District golf facilities

-Applicants will be accessed by the Sunset Valley Golf Professional to ensure they understand the program and exhibit a high degree of interest and commitment.

-Participants who complete the lesson series may be invited to continue the following year.

Michael Goldman fue residente de Highland Park durante mucho tiempo y ávido golfista de Sunset Valley Golf Club. El Sr. Goldman creía que el golf es una herramienta para el éxito: una forma de desarrollar el enfoque y la disciplina mientras se fomenta el bienestar emocional a través de una actividad al aire libre sana y agradable. El objetivo de su familia es compartir la oportunidad que el Sr. Goldman tanto valoraba con la juventud local y usar el golf como un medio para ayudar a los jóvenes a superar obstáculos. Esta beca es para estudiantes de secundaria y preparatoria de Highland Park y Highwood que están entusiasmados con aprender a jugar golf y que de otro modo no tendrían acceso a lecciones de golf.
