This 4Skills funded course is delivered by NFTS Scotland. We are looking for 10 participants from Scotland.
About the course
This intensive course will take entry level trainees through the skills they will need to add value to their role on productions and enhance their understanding of self-shooting. Our three, two day Pathway courses will take our participants on a journey starting with how to set up a tripod for the first time through to shooting master interviews with industry standard equipment.
It is very hands on course, working in teams of two - each Pathway course is based around practical exercises based on frontline TV shooting scenarios but also will give trainees an understanding of the theory which backs up the practice.

Pathway 1 - Getting Started - will take our trainees from having no or little experience through the basic setup of a professional camera and tripod, then through practical assessed exercises, establishing an understanding of camera and TV shooting basics and their importance - Framing, Exposure, Focus, Aperture, Lenses, ND, Depth of Field, WB. Shooting GVs, basic broadcast audio.

Pathway 2 - What are the shots for? - will re-cap and extend the skills learned in Pathway 1 through more assessed practical exercises giving the trainee a real understanding of what the shots are for, their visual grammar and importance in telling a story and following a brief. They will also learn to use RM's, Boom techniques, and how to shoot impactful Master Interviews, visually scripting and shooting a sequence.

Pathway 3 - Using the camera to empower your storytelling - will recap on Pathways 1and 2 and go on to further explore storytelling with a camera, extended grammar, practical application of camera 'toys' - Sliders, Easyrigs, Ronin, i Direct. Pathway 3 will have more complex hands on shooting exercises and include Advanced lighting and 2 camera setups and also allow time to recap and clarify any points along our journey.
