Prior to Covid-19 I was conducting in-person interviews with people willing to tell me their stories about why they left the church. Since meeting in person is no longer safe I am now asking people to share their stories with me by filling out this survey. Please read the details below before filling out the form.

Leaving Church/Suffering Church Project

By answering the questions in this survey I am agreeing to participate in the above-named research project (detailed description included below), and to have my participation recorded and transcribed.

I understand that my participation may be reported in the written form of the project in print or online as described in the research plan.

Research Project

This project is being conducted in partial fulfillment of the Doctor of Ministry degree at Phillips Theological Seminary under the auspices of Phillips Theological Seminary.

The purpose of this project is to create a safe space for individuals to tell their story of why they have left the church and to help those of us still committed to the church to better understand the reasons for the decline in those identifying as Christians.

This project is intended to benefit the storyteller by giving them a safe space to tell their story of why they left the church. It is also intended to benefit those of us struggling with the decline in church attendance to help us see how we might do better as a church in the future.

The plan is to use the stories to create a series of monologues that will be turned into a play that would then be able to be presented.

The Primary Investigator agrees to keep the names of participants confidential. She also agrees to not evangelize to participants.
