SPARC is currently seeking three interns for the 2024-2025 Season. We are seeking a Production Intern, Community Engagement Intern, and a Training Class Intern.

Position Descriptions:

TRAINING CLASS INTERN
The Training Class Intern will work directly with our team of full-time faculty members in our Showstoppers course. This fall, Showstoppers presents Shrek Jr. Showstoppers is a 24-week-long program for young people who are ready to commit to a rehearsal and performance process without the stress of an audition. The cast of Showstoppers will learn skills like audition preparation, rehearsal etiquette, and collaboration. This position is ideal for those interested in pursuing a career in education. Training classes typically occur between 4pm to 8pm Monday-Thursday and 9am to 1pm on Saturdays.
Responsibilities of the Training Class Intern Include:
  • Preparing the classroom space before students arrive.
  • Supporting lesson delivery with SPARC faculty.
  • Providing individual and group assistance during class.
  • Working with SPARC faculty to assist with various production needs.

PRODUCTION INTERN
The Production Intern will primarily work alongside the Stage Manager during SPARC's mainstage season. The Production Intern will get to work on SPARC's entire mainstage season, including shows such as Hadestown: Teen Edition, She Kills Monsters: Young Adventurers Edition, and Nickelodeon’s The SpongeBob Musical: Youth Edition. The Production Intern will work with distinguished Directors, Stage Managers, and other production staff from the Richmond theatre community.

Responsibilities include:
  • Setting up the rehearsal space before youth arrive.
  • Working with the stage manager to manage production needs as they arise during rehearsal.
  • Attending final performances to help with cast management, prop placement, and other technical needs.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT INTERN
The Community Engagement Intern will work with the Programs and Development teams during the 2024-2025 season. The Community Engagement intern will interact directly with families, donors, and Richmond community members as a SPARC ambassador. The intern will play a key role in fostering meaningful connections within our community. position is a wonderful option for those who are looking to gain experience in arts administration in a nonprofit setting. Responsibilities include:
  • Assist in the development and execution of outreach strategies.
  • Work with the SPARC team to coordinate and manage community events.
  • Attend tabling events around Richmond to promote SPARC.
  • Serve as an Usher/Box Office Attendant during SPARC productions to get to know our families and SPARC community.
  • Create and brainstorm social media content to help connect SPARC to new audiences.
  • Conduct research to identify opportunities for community engagement.

SPARC's internship program is open to high school students, college students, or those seeking professional development to gain experience in the field of youth arts and arts administration. We strive to provide an atmosphere where creative expression flourishes, meaningful connections are built, and individuality is celebrated. SPARC's internship program is currently unpaid, but we offer a variety of competitive perks.
