Our team is working on a 2-year project, funded by the Lucile Packard Foundation for Children’s Health, to examine barriers and policy options for youth with special health care needs (YSHCN), particularly Black YSHCN, aging out of 4 public programs: SSI, Medicaid, CHIP, and Title V Programs for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs. We are working with a national advisory group on this effort. More about this project can be found here.
We would like to hear directly from families with young adults ages 19-25 who have or are in the process of aging into adulthood and losing childhood eligibility for the 4 public programs. It will help us better understand the challenges that Black YSHCN, including those with disabilities, and their families face during this process.
Your response will be anonymous. We plan to summarize the anonymous responses to this question in a report, which will include recommendations for how to better support Black young adults and their families as they age out of the 4 public programs.
