United Way: Emergency Response Volunteers
Program Understanding and Expression of Interest
As part of the City of Kingston’s Emergency Response Plan, United Way of KFL&A is seeking volunteers to assist in the event of an emergency.
The Emergency Management Plan is managed by staff from Kingston Fire & Rescue. If selected as a volunteer, the Community Emergency Management Coordinator will work with you as follows:
Provide information on how United Way community volunteers can support the City during an emergency
Provide training and coordination to volunteers on supporting a variety of emergencies in non-hazardous situations
Undergo an annual CPIC and Vulnerable Sector by the City
Provide first-aid training sessions for those who are interested
Provide other training and information sessions periodically
Emergency Response volunteers may be called upon if there is an emergency. This is a list of potential roles that volunteers may be assigned:
In reception centres to support registration and identification of displaced persons
In non-hazardous areas to support emergency workers
Assisting the City’s social services staff in the provision of emergency social services, food, clothing, lodging and other social service supports
Assisting emergency services to directly communicate important information to residents outside an Emergency impact area(s)
Operating City-owned motor vehicles to deliver supplies and equipment for use by other responders
Participating in City briefings to understand and support services
Developing work rotations with City staff that supports effective “work-rest” cycles
Supporting and joining effort with other community response agencies working in support of the City
