Introduction

The Michigan Department of Education, Office of Great Start is taking the lead to apply for the Preschool Development Grant Birth Through Five (PDG B-5) grant opportunity from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on behalf of the State of Michigan.

We need input from parents, providers, and partners like you to make this a successful grant application. Please complete this brief survey by October 12, 2018.

The grant has five required activities for funding. You can enter any thoughts or suggestions you have for each of the activities. You are not required to respond to every prompt. If you experience technical difficulties, you can also email questions and thoughts to MDE-PDG-B-5-Comment@michigan.gov.

Background

The PDG B-5 Grant Opportunity is a competitive grant program designed to support states in coordinating and aligning early childhood care and education (ECE) programs, resources, and services that already exist; improving program quality; facilitating better partnerships between programs and improving the transition from ECE programs into elementary school; increasing program operating and cost efficiencies; expanding parental choices and involvement; and ensuring families are linked to the full range of services they need. The grant will not fund any preschool slots for children but instead focuses on the existing resources in the state and supporting families in engaging in their children’s education across the age span.  Michigan’s application will particularly focus on supports for children ages zero to three years old.

MDE has partnered with Public Sector Consultants to write the grant application. The submission deadline is November 6, 2018 so we are on a fast track to prepare a successful application.
