Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay On-Demand Bus User Survey
Background Information:
Questions & Answers:
What is an On‐Demand Bus Service?
On‐demand bus service is technology‐enabled, shared public transportation. Buses do not follow a schedule or regular route. Buses will operate within a zone and service stops within that zone. The bus will only leave the terminal if someone needs a ride. This type of service is common in many large and small municipalities with low ridership.
Riders will be able to set up an account through the HVGB On-Demand Bus Service app or via phone to use the system. Passengers will access the system in two ways. Most will book and track their rides using a phone or Web app. Riders can also call (Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm) to book a ride.
Drivers and dispatchers use the app to plan passenger pickups. The app/dispatch determines where and when the driver responds to on‐demand requests.
Do any other cities use an On‐Demand Bus Service?
Currently, more than 30 municipalities in Canada use an on‐demand bus service, including St. John’s, NL, Saint John, NB, Edmonton, AB, Oakville, ON, Calgary, AB, Regina, SK, Pond Inlet, Nunavut, Powell River, BC, and rural communities throughout PEI. This type of service is also frequently found in many parts of the United States.
What about people without access to technology?
The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay understands that not everyone will be able to access this technology and that is why the system will be accessible by telephone. We will ensure our system is user-friendly for all residents.
