Dear Participant
You are being invited to take part in a research study. Before you decide if you want to participate, please carefully read the information in this leaflet. You can talk about the study with other people if you wish.
What is the purpose of the study?
The study will investigate attitudes about social interactions.
Why have I been chosen?
You have been asked to participate in this study as you are an English-speaking adult.
Do I have to take part in the study?
This information sheet has been designed to help you decide if you want to participate. It is up to you whether you wish to participate. If you agree to do so, then you will be at liberty to withdraw at any point during the duration of the data collection process without needing to provide a reason and with no penalties or detrimental effects.
What will I be asked to do if I take part in the study?
If you wish to take part in this study you will need to select the boxes in the “consent” field on the study link confirming that you have read this information sheet and the consent form.
The study will consist of a series of short stories about two people. You will then be asked some questions based on these stories.
The study will take up to about 5 minutes.
What are the possible risks of taking part?
There are no risks with participating in this study over and above the everyday activity of using a computer. You are free to withdraw from the study at any time by simply stopping the survey. If you choose not to submit all responses, your data will be withdrawn.
What are the possible benefits of taking part?
We hope that you will find participating in this study an interesting experience. Your participation will assist us in our research and will help to develop a wider understanding of this subject within the scientific community and more generally.
Who will know that I am taking part?
Prolific academic will record the fact that you participated, but will not share your identity with us, nor any data that could be traced back to you.
Will my details be kept confidential?
Yes. All information that is collected during the study will be kept confidential at all times and in compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018. We will not ask you to reveal any data from which you can be personally identified. Any data you give about yourself will be fully anonymized.
How will records from the study be stored?
Only anonymized data will be stored. This anonymised data will be made freely available to the scientific community
What happens when the research project stops?
Anonymized data from the project will be used to produce a research paper and will be made freely available to the scientific community.
What will you do with the findings of the study?
The findings of the study will be used to produce a research paper. The paper may be published in an scientific journal and/or on a website, and may be presented in some other context (such as at a scientific conference).
Who is organising and paying for the study?
The study is being co-ordinated by the University of Milan University and has been reviewed by the University Research Ethics Committee.
