Introduction

The Shire of Kent is seeking input from the public to develop it's inaugural Public Health Plan and Age Friendly Community Plan.

Public Health Plan
A public health plan is a statutory requirement of local government, and is essentially a:

1. Health Profile
  • Background evidence which provides an analysis of the health status and health determinants of the population.
  • Provides an overview of the public health needs and risks of the community.
2. Strategic Plan
  • Objectives and policy priorities to achieving positive public health outcomes.
  • Identifies actions in promotion, improvement and protection of public health.

Age Friendly Community Plan
An age-friendly community is a place where 'policies, services, settings and structures support and enable people to age actively by:
  • Recognising the wide range of capacities and resources amongst older people;
  • Anticipating and responding flexibly to age-related needs and preferences;
  • Respecting their decision and lifestyle choices;
  • Protecting those who are most vulnerable; and
  • Promoting their inclusion in and contribution to all areas of community life.

The Shire of Kent is committed to maintaining a healthy, safe and sustainable community for everyone and, as such, we are conducting a survey with the aim to provide better quality information to determine what the community's health and wellbeing concerns and issues are.

The information received will support the development of the Public Health Plan and an Age Friendly Community Plan.

Consultation for the Public Health Plan will run from 11 September to 2 October 2024.

The survey is in two parts and will take approximately 10 minutes to complete.

The second part is for older community members.
