PAG Task Force Sign up Survey

HDC is restructuring our existing Policy Advisory Group into smaller, issue-focused task forces. Some of these task forces already exist (TOD, VSHSL) and others are new. These groups will determine their own short-term and long-term goals, as well as how frequently they would like to meet. Groups that already meet welcome new members and will continue with their existing schedules, noted below.

Tenant protections. Over the last year, HDC members have advocated for protections for tenants who use subsidies such as Section 8 vouchers or SSI, particularly in South King County. This task force would strategize about which cities and additional policies to to focus on and advocate for.

Inclusionary zoning, land use, and public land. HDC often advocates for cities to use their zoning laws to require private developers to help create more affordable homes. Seattle's Mandatory Housing Affordability program is one example, and a number of jurisdictions around King County have implemented similar programs. Further, opportunities for public land to be used for affordable homes come up frequently across the County. This task force would advocate on these issues as opportunities arose in various cities.

Transit-oriented development. This task force already exists and meets on the second Friday of each month. It is a space where HDC members are able to learn more about collaboration between Sound Transit and our member organizations, particularly around building affordable homes on surplus Sound Transit land. The task force also advocates collectively around issues related to TOD.

Veterans, Seniors, and Human Services Levy. This task force already exists and meets as needed. The group is focused on passing an expanded version of the current Vets and Human Services Levy, which is expected to be on the ballot in Nov. 2017.

State Legislative Priorities. This work group will track and support HDC's state-level policy priorities in concert with partner organizations.

East King County Work Group. East King County advocates have identified the high cost of land and the lack of local funding options as specific barriers to building affordable homes in that area. This task force would work to identify and advocate for more funding.

South King County Planning & Development. This work group already exists as a space for members in South King County to strategize around regional affordable housing issues. Members advocate to cities, with a focus on solutions relevant to the SKC context.
