Study 1 - What is de-escalation?

Consent:

The purpose of this study is to better understand how you view de-escalation skills training. What is de-escalation? What knowledge and practice are needed to gain and maintain de-escalation skills? You will rate the usefulness of current de-escalation training content for officer-community member interactions. You will also respond to basic demographic items and describe the characteristics of the community and the people you work with. It is expected that the survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete.


In observance of ethical principles related to human participation in research please note the following:

  1. All of the information you provide during the study will be held in the strictest confidence and your identity will remain completely anonymous.
  2. Results of this study will be analyzed only at the group level to further insure privacy.
  3. Participation in this study is completely voluntary and should create no more stress for you than your typical daily activities.
  4. Should you feel distressed at any point when responding to survey items you are free to discontinue your participation without penalty.
  5. As a benefit of your participation you will be provided with information that you may find relevant in your work and interactions with people.


This study has been reviewed by one or more compliance specialists who are members of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) in the Office of Sponsored Projects at Western Illinois University.
