Niagara Escarpment Biosphere Reserve (NEBR) 2.0
Invitation & Context
Thank you in advance for completing this survey.
We seek your wisdom as we prepare to move the Niagara Escarpment Biosphere Reserve (NEBR) to the grass roots where it can better support the living landscape we all love.
UNESCO Biosphere Reserves are internationally designated areas that demonstrate the balance that can be achieved between people and nature. They encourage sustainable development and improve our collective ability to deal with climate change.
The Niagara Escarpment was designated a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve in 1990, one of more than 650 biosphere reserves across the world and one of 18 across Canada.
The Niagara Escarpment Commission (NEC) is a provincial agency whose primary function is to implement the Niagara Escarpment Plan. NEC has generously played the role of central convener for the NEBR since its inception.
Governance of the NEBR is about to move from the NEC to a more community-based, grassroots leadership model involving individuals, organizations and communities along the Niagara Escarpment.
