These are strange, unsettling and increasingly difficult times.
The current political and social climate is marked by increasing polarization, particularly around issues of anti-racism and 2SLGBTQIA+ rights. While Canada has been at the forefront of 2SLGBTQIA+ equality in many respects, there are still pockets of resistance and ongoing challenges.
The rise of online platforms has contributed to the spread of misinformation and hate speech, affecting 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and their allies. This digital landscape has intensified debates and sometimes fueled anger, making constructive dialogue more difficult.
Economic pressures and political uncertainties have added to the stress experienced by many Canadians, including those in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. The impact of these struggles on marginalized communities is particularly concerning. Many people are feeling abandoned and disillusioned, which only adds to the complexity of the situation.
We’re concerned and worried. We know that we need a better game plan. We know that there are issues that remain to be addressed. Towards this end, we’re working on organizing some symposia on 2SLGBTQIA+ allyship, and we’d like to get your feedback to gain a better understanding of current 2SLGBTQIA+ sentiment and concerns:
