ASB IS BUILT ON COMMITTED VOLUNTEERS

Since 1937, the Association of Southeastern Biologists (ASB) has supported its members in research and education, using knowledge to solve biological problems, and preserving biological resources. ASB provides a crucial step in the STEM-Student Pipeline, giving seasoned researchers a venue to share their knowledge and a place for upcoming biologists, who will proceed to advanced degrees and careers in academia and industry, their first experience presenting science. We provide a friendly space to receive feedback, learn about job and graduate school opportunities, and meet experts in the field.

However, ASB is run by volunteers like you and we need your help in finding nominees for several ASB elected officer positions. Several positions are open for the 2025 election cycle. Please take a moment to nominate a colleague (or yourself) that you believe will be able to commit time and energy to helping ASB uphold its mission in the coming years.
If you want to know more about what it means to be an ASB officer or committee member, please contact us directly at info@sebiologists.org or contact one of our officers.
Below you will find descriptions of each open position, along with text boxes in which to enter the name(s) of nominee(s). All nominees will be contacted and must agree to be considered before their name can be included on the electronic ballot for spring elections.

Question Title

* Nominations for ASB Vice President (2025-2026)

This individual is key to the daily business of ASB and ideally, the person will have already served on the ASB Executive Committee to have gained a basic understanding of how ASB functions. The VP position is an opportunity for both the individual and the association to determine interest in the position of presidency.

Some typical duties of the Vice President include updating the code of conduct with the guidance of legal counsel and serving as a point of contact for violations of the code of conduct; identifying and recruiting featured institutions, patrons, and exhibitors; identifying and scheduling plenary speakers; filling committee positions; maintaining and updating the leadership guide; and running executive committee meetings in the absence of the president.

This individual will be expected to take part in regular virtual Executive Committee meetings throughout the year as well as in-person meetings on the first and last day of the annual ASB conference, the annual Members Meeting that occurs during the conference, and the fall Executive Committee meeting.

The Vice President will serve a one-year term.

Question Title

* Nominations for ASB Member-at-Large (2025-2028)

Members-at-Large represent the interests of the members of the Association on the Executive Committee, propose and vote on motions, and help the society continue its mission. They also gain a solid understanding of how the Association functions.

Members-at-Large fill roles as assigned by the Executive Committee, which may include maintaining lists of potential speakers, featured institutions, and meeting and social venues; scheduling and/or leading events at the meeting; creating content for social media, the ASB website, and other publications; serving as liaisons to committees, affiliates, featured institutions, and local contributors; and filling vacant committee, moderator, and judge roles if needed.

These individuals will be expected to take part in regular virtual Executive Committee meetings throughout the year as well as in-person meetings on the first and last day of the annual ASB conference, the annual Members Meeting that occurs during the conference, and the fall Executive Committee meeting.

We have two open Member-at-Large positions, each of which would serve a three-year term.

Question Title

* Nominations for ASB Member-at-Large One-Year Interim MAL (2025-2026)

We seek nominations to fulfill the duties of a current member-at-large from the class of 2026 who is unable to complete the term. The person elected in this position will be a full member of the Executive Committee with all the responsibilities thereof for one year, at which time they would be eligible to run for any open position on the EC.
