COLLEGIATE VOCAL SOLO COMPETITION FORM

Plano Civic Chorus is holding a Collegiate Vocal Solo Competition to promote the performance of non-idiomatic compositions by African American composers. The contest is open to all undergraduate singers in the DFW metroplex.
  • Undergraduate students are asked to submit a video of themselves singing a non-idiomatic (non spiritual or gospel music) song by an African American composer.
  • Entries must be received no later than midnight on December 15th.
  • The PCC Artistic Committee, excluding Dr. Randall Hooper, will review all of the submitted videos and select up to three students to perform the submitted piece on the PCC Concert February 24, 2024 at 7:30 pm at Christ United Methodist Church in Plano. All contestants must be available to perform at the February 24, 2024 concert.
  • Each selected performer will be awarded a $100 cash prize.
  • The Music by Black Composers website is a valuable resource to find collections of non-idiomatic vocal music by African American composers. https://www.musicbyblackcomposers.org/sheet-music/repertoire-directories/vocal-and-opera-repertoire/
