Two applications need to be made. The first one goes to one (or more) of the following 12 collaborating home graduate units:
· Dalla Lana School of Public Health (DLSPH) – MPH, MSc, PhD
· Department of Philosophy (PHL) – MA, PhD
· Department for the Study of Religion (RLG) – MA, PhD
· Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work (SW) – PhD
· Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education (KPE) – MSc, PhD
· Faculty of Law (LAW) – LLM, SJD
· Graduate Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences (GDSP) – MSc, PhD
· Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation (IHPME) – MHSc, MSc, PhD
· Institute of Medical Science (IMS) – MSc, PhD
· Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing (NUR) – MN, PhD
· Rehabilitation Sciences Institute (RSI) – MSc, PhD
· Women & Gender Studies Institute (WGSI) – PhD
Please note that “Bioethics” must be entered in Box 22 Collaborative Specialization on the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) application form so that your interest in the CSB is noted by SGS. You cannot be admitted into the CSB prior to admittance into a home unit, and admission into a home unit does not guarantee admission into the CSB.
The second application goes to the Collaborative Specialization in Bioethics (ideally at the same time as the application to the home unit) and consists of filling out the form on the following page (hit the 'next' button below) as well as sending a full application to the CSB. We require a current CV, transcripts (note: transcripts must be PDFs or scanned copies of the originals - photos of transcripts will not be accepted), two letters of reference, and a one-page letter of intent. The letter of intent should explain why you’re interested in the CSB, outline the research project you’re planning to do and provide the reasons why you chose this particular research project, describe the research methodology that will be used to complete the project, explain what you think you’ll get from the CSB and what you’ll give to the CSB, and what you intend to do once the CSB is completed.
Applications should be sent to Terry Yuen, Collaborative Specialization in Bioethics, University of Toronto Joint Centre for Bioethics, 155 College St., Suite 754, Toronto, ON, M5T 1P8. If your application to a home unit is successful, please notify Terry at jcb.education@utoronto.ca as soon as possible so that your application can be considered by the CSB.
All CSB applications are reviewed by the CSB Executive Committee (consisting of a representative from each collaborating unit); Terry will notify you of the Committee’s decision concerning your application.
