Texas currently provides funding for peer support for individuals with mental health-related disabilities, but not for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Advocates in Texas believe the future of waiver programs should include employment for waiver participants as self-advocacy skills training specialists, personal attendants and person-centered plan facilitators. Thus, TCDD is researching how to structure and expand opportunities for peer supports in the DD system.
