Welcome!

PROJECT INTRODUCTION
Thank you for your interest in participating in the New York City Arts in Education Roundtable’s research on Teaching Artists in New York City. The Roundtable is a service organization working to improve and advance arts education. We are a community of arts education practitioners sharing information, providing professional development, and communicating with the public to promote the work of Teaching Artists in schools, communities and beyond. The purpose of this research is to more deeply understand current Teaching Artist compensation and employment trends in New York City.

SURVEY INSTRUMENTS
As part of this research, we are conducting two surveys, one for Teaching Artists and one for organizations employing Teaching Artists.

THE SURVEY YOU ARE ABOUT TO BEGIN IS INTENDED FOR ORGANIZATIONS EMPLOYING TEACHING ARTISTS.
The survey you are about to begin is intended for organizations employing Teaching Artists.

If you are a Teaching Artist, please click here to be redirected to the survey for Teaching Artists.

If you are self-employed as a Teaching Artist and do not employ other Teaching Artists in your business, please do not complete this organization survey. Instead, click here to be redirected to the survey for individual Teaching Artists. You will have the opportunity to indicate that you are self-employed in that survey.

If you represent an organization that employs Teaching Artists AND you also work separately as a Teaching Artist yourself, you are welcome to take both surveys, though we recommend prioritizing completing this survey first.

If you have any questions about which survey you should complete, please contact TASurvey@nycaieroundtable.org.

SURVEY ELIGIBILITY - ORGANIZATIONS EMPLOYING TEACHING ARTISTS
Organizations are invited to participate in this research if they:

1) Are or have been employing Teaching Artists between 2023 - present. According to the Teaching Artists Guild website, Teaching Artists are practicing, professional artists who teach and integrate their art form, perspectives, histories, and skills into a wide range of learning settings. They may also be known as arts educators, cultural bearers, or community artists.

AND

2) Have or have had the majority of the organization’s Teaching Artist-related work based within the five boroughs of NYC between 2023 - present.
WHAT TO EXPECT
  • For this study, you will be asked to complete the following survey estimated to take 30–45 minutes.
  • We encourage you to prepare materials in advance and plan to complete the survey in one sitting.
    • If you do not feel you can complete the survey in one sitting, we encourage you to begin by making a copy of this Google Doc and preparing your answers separately in that document before responding on the SurveyMonkey platform, as it may or may not save your responses accordingly.
  • You will be asked to provide demographics, information about your pay rates, benefits you offer, and what is included in your compensation for Teaching Artists.
We understand that the answers to some of these questions may fluctuate. Please provide your best estimate.

Data will be reported in aggregate form anonymously and no organization or individual names will be used. If any quotes are used from open-ended responses, they will be attributed to the term ‘organization’ and not any named organization or individual.

Having these items / information nearby will help you to complete the survey faster:
