Welcome to the NZCCM Environmental Management Survey

Who is NZCCM?
The New Zealand Conservators of Cultural Materials, Pū Manaaki Kahurangi, was founded in 1986, and is the professional body for conservators and allied collection care professionals in Aotearoa. You can find out more about us at nzccm.org.nz

Why are we conducting this survey?
Conservators and collection care professionals work in collaboration with indigenous communities, the GLAM sector, and other professions, to produce outcomes that ensure the conservation and preservation of collection objects and provide access to knowledge. It is important to us that the survey represents the wide range of organisations that care for collections and taonga in Aotearoa New Zealand.

What is the purpose of the survey?
The survey is to gather information on how collection and display climate conditions, i.e. humidity and temperature are managed in organisations throughout Aotearoa New Zealand.

What is in the survey?
The survey questions will ask you about the following:
- Your organisation and collections
- Your building
- The ways you heat and cool the building and maintain humidity and temperature
- Monitoring of the humidity and temperature levels

How will responses be used?
The survey responses will only be used to:
- Understand the approach to managing climate conditions in organisations holding heritage collections across New Zealand;
- Open a dialogue on the environmental requirements for climate control in a heritage organisation and in loans, adapted to the specific context and needs in Aotearoa
- Develop recommendations for climate guidelines that will support museums, galleries, archives, libraries, iwi and hāpu in defining, setting and achieving goals in managing climate and maintaining adequate levels of humidity and temperature for their collections.

All information gleaned from the survey will be used by the working group and executive in line with the NZ Privacy ACT 2020 and the NZCCM Data Protection & Privacy Policy which you can find on our website in the About Us section.
Anonymised survey findings will be published through the NZCCM channels.
