2019 NYSARH Conference

The New York State Association for Rural Health (NYSARH) is accepting proposals for presentations and speaker nominations for the 2019 Annual Conference entitled, “Harnessing the Power of Rural”. Please consider submitting an application no later than May 1, 2019 to share your expertise or best-practice model with our 150 anticipated guests on Wednesday September 25 thru Friday, September 27, 2019, at the Conference & Event Center in Niagara Falls, New York.

The Annual NYSARH Conference is a unique venue that attracts professionals from all across New York State, representing areas of academia, public health, EMS, politics, aging, behavioral health, the private and non-profit sector, and the health care industry.

Presentation Submission Guidelines:
The conference strives to provide meaningful information on current trends that either directly or indirectly influence the ability to provide quality and affordable health care to rural New Yorkers. Presentations by individuals or teams will be considered. Presentations should be engaging and provide for Q&A. Content should be innovative, informative and promote discussion and networking. The 2019 NYSARH Conference will feature presentations that align with three educational tracks and multiple cross-cutting themes:

Riding the Rapids of Workforce Development- Rural geographic areas, populations, and facilities have too few primary care, dental and mental health providers, nurses, and direct care workers. To maximize the impact on health outcomes and lead the movement toward accountable, person-centered care, the rural workforce must be poised to meet the growing demands of those we serve and our communities. Presentations examine policy, economics, planning challenges, health professional shortage areas, and other issues related to the rural healthcare workforce and demonstrate innovative strategies for recruitment, retention and training of a high quality workforce.

The Cascading Force for Change- Emerging care and payment models are having a transformative impact on how health care and community-based organizations deliver care and services in rural communities. Presentations will highlight how rural providers and organizations are making innovative system changes to improve population health and meet the needs of complex patients.

The Power of Rural- Grassroots initiatives in rural communities develop innovative and collaborative strategies to improve healthy equity and well-being in the communities served through population health improvement activities, organizational capacity building, and our rich story of advocacy. Presentations will identify challenges and innovative practices and models for improving population health and wellness through addressing social determinants of health, challenges of organizational capacity and scale, and policy issues.

Social Determinants. Developing and implementing strategies that address the social determinants of health and promote health equity.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Including diverse voices, removing barriers, and engaging communities and patients as key components of meaningful transformation in population health.

Technology. Using technology to advance population health by coordinating care, screening and referrals unleashes opportunities for rural communities.

Oral Health. Promoting organizational, local, state, and federal policies from health care and other social sectors that encourage system-level changes that transform communities to improve the health of individuals and populations.

Sustainability. Implementing approaches to demonstrate outcomes and develop business cases for sustainability of population health initiatives and/or organizational capacity.

Emergency Medical Services. Volunteer and rural EMS systems face many challenges as a lifeline for rural communities. Learn about EMS strategies to address issues related to healthcare access.

Advocacy. Promoting policies that provide the rural county perspective on a myriad of issues during the legislative and regulatory process for positive change.

I have no conflict of interest with this presentation. I understand that my learning session is not a showcase for promotion of my business, practice or product. I acknowledge that NYSARH has the rights to utilize the information in marketing the education sessions if my program is selected.

If selected to present at the 2019 NYSARH Conference, I will supply an electronic copy of my PowerPoint presentation and all handouts to NYSARH by September 1, 2019. All presentations will be made available to participants to download from the NYSARH website prior to attending the conference. I may choose to supply at least 50 copies of my presentation on the day of the event for the attendees to use as guidance during the presentation.

I understand that failure to meet these guidelines may affect future opportunities to present to this group.

Complimentary Registration: As compensation for your time, we will provide free conference registration and attendance at all conference meals for up to two presenters who have their proposals accepted by the NYSARH Board. Please note, hotel accomodations are the presenters' responsibilty; including all fees and payments.
