Welcome to the global survey for the Mountain Women of the World research project.

This is a collective and participatory research initiative to map and surface the multiple, diverse challenges faced by mountain women across different contexts and geographies of the world. This research is especially important in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. The results of this survey will be transformed into a report which will aim to highlight and foreground the multiple and inspiring ways in which mountain women have strengthened their resilience, solidarity and collective power. We define mountain women as people who self-identify as women and who live and/or work in the mountaineous areas. For example, women who live in the mountains and/or do activities in the mountains like farming or handicrafts, women who work in mountain tourism or that are, guides, porters, cooks, etc. The research findings will be elaborated to shape a report to be published on 11 December, International Mountain Day 2022.

The global survey contains some questions that are more personal in nature. Therefore, if answering any question makes you feel uncomfortable or mght lead you to be identified, please do not feel you need to reply to all answers, you can just write 'N/A'. Non-profit organisation Feminist Hiking Collective will confidentially store all the information provided until the end of the project. After the publication of report, they will permanently delete all the information that haven’t been published or contain sensitive information.

The research project is a partnership between the Mountain Women of the World network (www.mountainwomenoftheworld.org) and the Mountain Partnership (https://www.fao.org/mountain-partnership/en/). The Mountain Partnership is the United Nations international alliance dedicated to improving the lives of mountain peoples and protecting mountain environments around the world. The Secretariat of the Mountain Partnership is hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
