Criteria:

The candidate for this award should be an elected or appointed official (past or present) from within or representing the New River Valley that has made significant contributions for the betterment of the region. Focus will be on candidates that improve communities through their dedication, collaborative approach and impact. Previous award winners include: 2014- Mr. Joseph Sheffey, Pulaski County Board of Supervisors; 2015- Mr. Rick Boucher, US House of Representatives 1983-2011; 2016- Delegate Joseph Yost 12th House District in Virginia 2012-2018 and William Brown Montgomery County Board of Supervisors, retired; 2017- Chris McKlarney Giles County Administrator; 2018- Susan Kidd Town of Narrows; 2019-Delegate Nick Rush 7th District in Virginia; 2020-Chris Tuck Montgomery County Board of Supervisors, retired; 2021-Craig Meadows, Montgomery County and Lydeana Martin, Floyd County; 2022-Penny Franklin, Montgomery County School Board; 2023-Delegate Jason Ballard, 12th House District in Virginia; 2023-Robert Graham, Superintendent Pulaski County Schools.
