The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and New Jersey Department of Transportation are partnering to update statewide trail planning documents with the goal of providing guidebooks to assist trail planners and managers in the state. This survey is part of a public outreach effort to ensure that these planning documents meet the needs of New Jersey's residents. It addresses key topics that have been identified as priorities by the planning team, including funding, connecting and facilitating trail projects, trail user safety, and action items for further developing New Jersey's system of trails. This survey is intended for those who plan, manage, or contribute to the development and maintenance of trails in the state. Your knowledge and experience will help us improve trails and greenways throughout New Jersey.

When we mention “trails" in this survey, we are referring to designated routes, linear parks or protected corridors to be used for recreation and/or active transportation, recognizing that these uses may overlap.

The survey's Background Information and Trail Planning and Management sections take approximately 10 minutes total to complete. If you also work with trail funding in your role, the Trail Funding sections take an additional 5 - 8 minutes. You can exit and return to the survey using the same device, and your progress will be saved automatically. This survey is voluntary and confidential, with trail location information used only to understand the communities served.

Thank you for taking the time to complete our survey! If you have any questions, please contact us at Trails@dep.nj.gov.
