NGSS in Your Classroom 2014 |
1. Inquiry and the Framework PD Application
Thank you for your interest in Towson University's “NGSS in Your Classroom: Engaging your students in the Scientific and Engineering Practices” professional development program. This professional development opportunity is open to all middle and high school science teachers in Maryland.
During the 5-day (45-hour) ‘NGSS in Your Classroom’ professional development workshop, middle and high school science teachers will be introduced to “The Framework for K-12 Science Education” and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Educators will explore the NGSS in a collaborative, hands-on, learner-centered environment, thereby gaining the knowledge and pedagogical skills necessary to begin adapting their current curriculum to the new NGSS.
The ‘NGSS in Your Classroom’ Program goals include:
• Understanding the new vision for science education as outlined in “The Framework for K-12 Science Education”
• Learning about the NGSS with a focus on the Scientific and Engineering Practices
• Understanding how inquiry-based instruction supports NGSS
• Exploring how nature of science instruction fits within NGSS
• Modifying a lesson to include the Science and Engineering Practices and nature of science instruction
• Opportunities to share and discuss with colleagues ideas for implementing NGSS in the classroom
