1. Veterans Arts Council - Artist Information

The Veterans Arts Council (VAC) operates the arts program for Ward Roney Jr. VFW Post 7511 and manages the VFW Post 7511 Art Gallery, located at 125 E. Main St. #101 in Monroe, Washington. The members of the VAC curate the art through a competitive juried process. The VAC commits to hosting public gallery hours during which community members can visit the gallery. All art displayed in the gallery is for sale, with prices supplied exclusively by the artists (the VAC does not price art). Additionally, the VAC organizes special arts events and partners with other arts organizations in the community to promote and benefit the Post, the Post Art Gallery, veteran artists, and the Sky Valley community.

The VAC supports veteran artists and all artists located in the Sky Valley. As art in the gallery is sold, a portion of the proceeds is donated back to the Post.
Call for Artists - Summary and Vision

The Ward Roney Jr. VFW Post 7511 VAC is seeking artists with existing works to populate its indoor public art gallery located on Main Street in downtown Monroe. All art selected for inclusion in the gallery shall be available for sale for the duration of its display. Once a piece of art is sold, the artist agrees to donate a portion of the proceeds to Post 7511 to help further its mission of service to veterans and the community (see Budget for terms).

All artworks must be priced by the artist.

All two-dimensional artworks are eligible, including paintings, photography, sketches, and drawings. (Note: sawtooth hangers will not be accepted.)

All abstract and representational three-dimensional stationary artworks are eligible, including sculpture, glass, ceramics, leatherwork, metalwork, fabric, and woodworking.

In addition, the VAC is searching for both traditional art pieces described above as well as high-quality artisan crafts that would be suitable for displaying on shelves in the gallery or a quilt rack. These could include works such as quilts, carved or woodworked cribbage boards, carved figures that fit the themes of the gallery.

**The VAC gallery is modest in size so please take that into consideration when submitting your work. If you have questions about sizing, please reach out to kevinopple@yahoo.com.

PLEASE NOTE: ALL WALL HANGING ART (PAINTINGS, PHOTOGRAPHY, et al) MUST HAVE A WIRE ACROSS THE BACK FOR HANGING. SAWTOOTH HANGERS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
Call for Artists: deadline, budget, additional details

Two- and three-dimensional works should be sized appropriately for a gallery setting and prepped for public display. Art should be suitable for viewing by people of all ages and should not post any hazard to the public.

While there is no specific theme, the VAC vision calls for artwork that is reflective of Monroe’s and the Sky Valley’s rich history, and/or art that demonstrates a connection to veterans, honors our nation’s heroes, reveres U.S. Military service, or expresses patriotism.

While veterans are encouraged to apply, veteran status is not required for art to be considered. Artists/makers agree to display the artwork for a period of six months beginning Sunday, August 4, 2024, extending through February 1, 2025. Extensions may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Application Deadline: midnight on Friday, July 19, 2024

Artist Eligibility: This call is open to both emerging and established practicing artists residing in Washington state. Sky Valley-based artists and veteran artists are strongly encouraged to apply. Note: Out of state artists are NOT accepted at this time.

Budget: Artist compensation is contingent on the sale of the artwork. The VFW agrees to open the gallery regularly to ensure the public’s ability to view the art on display (schedule to be determined). Veteran artists agree to donate 10% of the sale price to Post 7511. Non-veteran artists agree to donate 20%. All small works must be priced by the artist prior to their inclusion in the gallery.

Artists shall enter into a contract with the VFW Post 7511 VAC agreeing to these terms.
