Mercer County and all municipalities are currently updating their Hazard Mitigation Plan to meet the requirements of the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 (DMA 2000). The purpose of this plan is to identify vulnerabilities to a variety of natural disasters, and to develop plans to help minimize losses if disasters should occur. The intent of the plan is to provide a comprehensive document that takes into account the wide diversity of communities, businesses, and services that are an integral part of Mercer County and the region as a whole.
Due to your proximity to Mercer County, the effects of many of these natural disasters would be similar in your county and your involvement in this process could reap mutual benefits to both counties. By participating in the review of this plan, you will be engaging in the regional coordination of disaster mitigation planning, which is one of the intents of the Mitigation Planning Regulations (44 CFR 201).
This questionnaire is designed to help the committee gain a better understanding of how their neighboring counties operate day-to-day and during an emergency. It also allows our neighboring counties be included in this planning process.
The Mercer County Hazard Mitigation Plan Planning Committee thanks you for taking the time to participate in this information-gathering process.
